A Builder-Basic Home, Reworked for Real Life

When this family moved into their new home, it checked the boxes — but it didn’t feel like them. The finishes were builder basic and the spaces felt cold and generic, lacking the warmth and personality they wanted for their next chapter.

Their goal was to create a home that felt warm, relaxed, and inviting, while blending two distinct styles: his love of rustic materials and her preference for modern design with a bit of edge. With kids, a cat, and a love of entertaining, the home also needed to function beautifully for everyday life.

Through a full-service design and remodel, we reimagined the kitchen, dining area, entryway, primary bedroom, and a custom man room with a concealed gun safe — transforming the home into a space that finally feels personal and lived-in.

A Kitchen Designed Around Real Life

The kitchen became the heart of the project and required thoughtful problem-solving. Because he’s very tall, the vent hood was raised to improve comfort. The existing countertops had to remain, which meant every new choice needed to work seamlessly with what was already there.

We grounded the space with deep green cabinetry and replaced the original backsplash with a chic black tile featuring softly irregular edges — a subtle detail that bridges both clients’ styles. A custom granite sink was fabricated for the space, and contemporary lighting adds a modern contrast.

One key request shaped the entire layout: they wanted to be able to watch TV from the kitchen island. That meant carefully coordinating television placement, furniture heights, and lighting so nothing obstructed the view — a detail most people don’t notice, but feel every day.

Custom Details That Make Entertaining Easy

When the right bar cabinet didn’t exist, we designed one from scratch. Finished in a complementary green, it includes a wine cooler and integrated storage, allowing guests to feel comfortable helping themselves.

Throughout the home, warm wood elements soften the architecture, while performance fabrics ensure the furnishings stand up to kids, pets, and real life. Small nooks were thoughtfully addressed so no space felt overlooked, and yellow window framing was visually minimized with full-length curtain panels for a cleaner, more cohesive look.

A Home That Finally Feels Like Theirs

Because this was a full-service project, we handled everything behind the scenes — coordinating with the contractor, managing feasibility, and addressing any issues before items ever arrived. The family lived in the home throughout construction, and when it was finished, they had a fully furnished space designed to support how they live.

Today, the home feels inviting, intentional, and unmistakably theirs — a place they can truly enjoy.

"Ashley did an amazing job. She got a good feeling for our style right away and selected high quality pieces within our price range. Super easy to work with and was super patient with us as this was our first time hiring an Interior decorator!"
