Let's talk kitchen islands…
They are great for family gatherings, meal prep, entertaining, and usually, where everyone tends to gather. This space should not only be beautiful but functional as well. Today I'm sharing with you some features to consider.
Let’s start with the obvious... seating! Plenty of seating around the island brings people together in the heart of your home. This may sound like a no-brainer, but a lot of times, it's missing and is usually always requested.
Hang on while I geek out, but an organized Tupperware drawer… Does that even exist? Oh yes, it definitely can. Drawers are better than doors in a kitchen island because they make accessing the items you need more accessible and make your space more functional. Having a place for your utensils, spices, plates, etc., also provides more organization.
Outlets on an island are essential for charging electronics, plugging in appliances, and handling your family's tech. When renovating or building, consider what you will do in this space. Will you be working from your laptop? Maybe you'll need USB plug-ins. Do your kids do homework here? Several strategically placed outlets might do the trick.
When designing your new island, there are so many features that you can add. Pull-out trash cans, a prep sink, a wine fridge, and a warming drawer are great options. And if you can swing it, why not double up? What's better than one island? TWO! Double dishwasher... yes, please!
