Our Top Tips for Enduring a Large-Scale Home Renovation

THE moment has FINALLY arrived! If you’ve started with us, we just wrapped up your design presentation and are ready to get started on your newly designed space. Exciting right? So what should you expect diving into a renovation? Today, we are giving you a peek into what a large-scale renovation truly entails.

What is Renovating Really Like?

Let's address the elephant in the room - renovations are messy! The dust, it gets everywhere and I'm not talking just a finger swipe. It has a magical ability to find its way into every nook and cranny. Brace yourself for an assortment of construction sounds; it can get pretty loud. If you work from home, finding an alternate location might be a wise move. Your home will be a hub of different tradespeople, each contributing their expertise to the project.  It's not always the most ideal or comfortable living situation during renovations and many of our clients opt for a temporary relocation. Here’s the thing, it’s important to remember why you started this process. It can be an emotional process, but when it’s all said and done, it will be SO worth it. Keep the end game in mind.

Tip #1: Put Total Trust in the Process & the Experts

We've done this before many times over. Are hurdles a normal part of the process? Yes, with any renovation project there is usually something we run into, but our experienced team, alongside industry experts, will guide you through. We keep moving forward, explore our options, and make informed decisions.

Tip #2: Learn to Live with Less for a While

Renovations impact your daily life. Whether it's a kitchen or another space, be prepared for changes. Consider setting up a make  shift kitchen in another room and embrace a simpler daily routine. If possible, relocating during the process can make life a bit smoother.

Tip #3: Find Faith to Believe in the Finished Result

Renovation is an emotional process and there are usually several stages you will likely go through.

Excitement - This is the fun part, selection of materials, and seeing the 3D Renderings of your new space. This phase doesn’t usually last.

Fatigue - Construction fatigue is a real thing. Your daily life has been disrupted, your house is a mess… the dust! Let’s not forget the unexpected surprises.

Relief- The project is winding down, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. You love what you are seeing!

I encourage you to keep your WHY and your rendering front and center during this process. Believe that this won’t last forever(even though it feels that way) and you will get your beautifully designed home. Remember, when you have us as your project manager we work on your behalf, making sure the design is implemented correctly, discussing all the details and any questions with the contractor and problem-shoot anything that may arise. That way, you can focus on what you do best while we handle the intricacies of bringing your vision to life.
